The leaders of Shanghai Jiao Tong University led a delegation to visit Singapore

From April 21st to 24th, 2024, Ding Kuiling, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, led a delegation to visit Singapore. During the visit, Ding Kuiling accompanied Chinese Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng in meetings with Singapore's Minister of Education Chan Chun Sing, visited the National Research Foundation of Singapore, attended the launch ceremony of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Singapore Research Institute CREATE research project CNSB (Carbon Negative Synthetic Biology for Biomaterial Production from CO2), and held discussions with prominent Chinese scientists in Singapore.

Additionally, Ding Kuiling signed a student internship program agreement with Rolls-Royce Power Systems (Asia) Ltd on behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, witnessed the signing of strategic cooperation agreements between the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Singapore Research Institute and China Life Insurance (Singapore) Ltd, as well as between the Antai College of Economics and Management at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He also visited the board of directors, met with alumni, and unveiled the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Singapore Alumni Home.

On April 22nd, Ding Kuiling accompanied Chinese Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng in meeting with Singapore's Minister of Education Chan Chun Sing to further promote bilateral education cooperation. Huai Jinpeng emphasized the need to vigorously promote exchanges and cooperation between the two sides, fully leveraging the role of artificial intelligence and digital education to benefit teachers and students. He also expressed the importance of paying attention to and fairly utilizing innovative elements such as artificial intelligence and digital technology to empower education, emphasizing the cultivation of students' thinking ability, cooperation ability, and open-mindedness to promote cross-cultural exchanges and sustainable development.

On April 24th, Huai Jinpeng visited the National Research Foundation (NRF) in Singapore and attended the launch ceremony of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Singapore Research Institute CREATE research project CNSB. Chinese Ambassador to Singapore Cao Zhongming, embassy staff, members of the Ministry of Education delegation, NRF representatives, and representatives from the National University of Singapore also attended the ceremony, which was chaired by Ding Kuiling.

Huai Jinpeng congratulated Shanghai Jiao Tong University Singapore Research Institute on its achievements and the launch of the CREATE new project. Cao Zhongming, Ambassador of China to Singapore, Academician Zhang Rong, Party Secretary of Xiamen University, Luo Jibin, Associate Vice President of the National University of Singapore, Yang Dan, Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education, and Zhang Xichun, Party Secretary of South China University of Technology, also delivered speeches, expressing their willingness to further promote international cooperation in education.

On April 23rd, the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation agreement between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and relevant Singaporean institutions and the unveiling ceremony of the Alumni Home (Singapore) were held at the Antai Asia-Pacific Center of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Singapore Research Institute.

During the event, several strategic cooperation agreements were signed. Ding Kuiling, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Mr. Giovanni Spadaro, Global Market President of Rolls-Royce Power Systems (Asia) Ltd, signed an agreement on behalf of both parties for a student internship program. This cooperation aims to provide students with more practical opportunities and career development resources.

Peng Yinghong, Dean of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Singapore Research Institute, Lin Xiangyang, General Manager of China Life Insurance (Singapore) Ltd, Yin Haitao, Associate Dean of the Antai College of Economics and Management at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Ke Wenwei, Core Director of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Chairman of the Management College of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, respectively, signed agreements on behalf of their respective parties. Ding Kuiling and Zhou Yuyun, Minister Counsellor of the Political Section of the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, witnessed this important moment together.

On the same day, Ding Kuiling, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Wang Houji, President of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Alumni Association, and Liu Daoxian, President of the Singapore Alumni Association, jointly unveiled the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Alumni Home established in Singapore. This is the first overseas alumni home authorized by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Alumni Association. Global alumni of SJTU will rely on this physical space to further consolidate their emotions, carefully create a series of branded activities, feel the warmth of home, and recall the original feelings.

During the visit, Ding Kuiling and his delegation also visited and held discussions with Liao Kaiyuan, Wu Jiong, Lin Lianxing, Ji Qi, Fan Min, and other representatives of the board of directors and alumni in Singapore, introducing the recent development of the university and sharing thoughts on future development and construction.

Comrades from the United Front Work Department of the Party Committee, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Education Development Foundation, the Alumni Association Office, the Antai College of Economics and Management, and the Kaiyuan Law School accompanied the visit.
